Thanksgiving or Thanksliving?

thankful for thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is my FAVORITE holiday. I have loved Thanksgiving ever since I was a child. To this day, I can close my eyes and feel the “warmth” that was our home. I can smell the pies baking.

The memory of my dad singing while he is peeIing potatoes is something I will never forget. I chuckle as I can remember the perplexed look on my mom’s face every year when she couldn’t find the gravy boat.

I remember the crispness in the air and the sound of the autumn leaves crunching under our feet as we played football out in the yard.

I am so grateful for those memories but most importantly, I am so thankful for the family that made those memories.

Why thanksliving?

Because memories are one of the few things that we will leave to our children and our grandchildren that they can keep forever. We need to keep making and enjoying the special moments that make “the memories”.

Thanksgiving is one day where we give thanks for all the things that are good in our lives. What if we did that every day and lived a “Thanksliving” life? How can we do that?

thanksliving: a grateful way to live

What does gratitude mean? Gratitude is defined as ” a readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.”

Stop and think for just a moment the difference just a “little” bit of gratitude makes. It makes us happy when someone expresses their gratitude towards us but it makes us even happier when we express our gratitude towards others.

Developing a grateful mindset has a positive effect on us in many ways:

improves sleep quality

improves relaxation

increased energy levels

enhances emotional well-being

increases positivity

positive impact on relationships

increased happiness and joy

Wow! That’s good stuff. So, let’s figure out how we can develop a grateful mindset to enjoy better health and live a “Thanksliving” life!

simple Ways to express gratitude

  1. Thankful Three: Jot down three things each day for which you are grateful. This helps us to focus on the positives in our lives.
  2. Thank someone every day even for the smallest of things. Increasing our awareness of others will help us see the good in people.
  3. Count your blessing to start the day and count them to end the day. Keep it simple so that it becomes a habit. Anchor your counting to an activity you do every night and every morning. For example, count your blessings when you brush your teeth or while driving to work.
  4. Learn to turn negatives into positives. You dread going to your soul-sucking 9-5 but be grateful that you have a way to support your family until you can make a change.
  5. Journal your gratitude. Take time each day to write down the things for which you are thankful. Be consistent and keep it simple. This habit will be a great source of inspiration and motivation to you.
  6. Gratitude walk: Get out of the house, breathe some fresh air, leave the distractions behind and get a new perspective. Think about all of the good things that happened in your day and be grateful for them.
  7. Gratitude Collage: Make a picture collage of all that you are grateful for and keep it in plain sight to remind you.
  8. Gratitude Party: Yes! Have a party and invite all those that bring joy to your life. Express your gratitude by making this a special occasion.
  9. Take just one moment of each day to be thankful for one thing. You will be surprised how this can elevate your mood and make you have a more positive outlook.
  10. Gratitude letters: This one is one of my all-time favorites and I do this often. Write a simple note to someone to thank them for being in your life. This is a win-win for you and the recipient. This makes both parties very happy!
