Business ideas 2024. Wow! There are a million and one business ideas in 2024 for aspiring entrepreneurs but what is the best business to start in 2024?

You guessed it! The best business to start is the business that is right for you. How do you know which business is best for you? You will need to take a few minutes and answer the following questions. Once you have answered these questions, you will have a a pretty good idea of which business ideas and opportunities might be right for you.

20 Things to consider when thinking about business ideas

  1. What have I done in the past and what am I doing now to earn money? This is important to note because it could either move you towards a business idea or make you run from one.
  2. What made me start thinking about business ownership and doing my own thing? Are you tired of the soul sucking 9-5 or maybe you want to do something completely different. Maybe you are retiring but are nowhere near ready to stop working. Maybe you are a stay at home mom and want to have a business that allows you to work from home and spend more time with the kids.
  3. What are my top 3 reasons or motivators for wanting to explore business ideas and opportunities? Perhaps you want to make more money? Maybe you want to work with a spouse or partner to build a family business. Just be clear on why you want to own your own business.
  4. What are 3 things that have stopped me in the past from starting my own business? It could be money, not knowing where to start or maybe even fear of failure but whatever those reasons are for you is all that matters.
  5. What is your time frame for wanting to start your business? Now? six months? longer?
  6. How much money do have to start your business? Consider the liquid capital you have to invest which could be savings or funds that are available to you. Do you have a 401K ? What is your credit score? Would you qualify and be willing to secure financing? Loan from parents or another family member?
  7. What is your net income/revenue goal? How much money do you want or need to make?
  8. Will you be in business by yourself or will your spouse or partner be a part of the business? If so, how involved will they be?
  9. Are you looking for part-time or full-time business ideas? Will you need to explore business ideas and opportunities that allow you to keep working while starting your business on a part-time basis? Maybe you want to hit the ground running and consider business ideas that require you to work them full-time from day one.
  10. What are your strengths? What do you feel that you do really well? What do others ask you to help them with? Do you love sales? Are you a very process-oriented person? People person? Are you a good leader or manager? Just take some time to ponder this one.

So, take a peek at the answers to your questions and think about a business idea. Let’s say you always thought it would be great to own your own retail smoothie business. But, when you look at your answers you were a 9-5 + no evenings + no weekends and no holidays.

In addition, you also found that you preferred zero to no employees. Based upon those two things alone, it might not be a very good fit for you to own a business that is open ten plus hours per day which also requires a decent amount of staff to serve the customers.
